This is one of the most frequent questions we get. The short answer is: "nowhere (except your head)". You should carefully choose a master password that you will always remember and ideally never write it anywhere.

Definitely more secure than using the same password everywhere. You will show different passwords to different sites, thus reducing your chances of exposure if a particular site is broken into.

That would be very difficult. The scrambling algorithm is based on a standard secure one-way hash function (SHA-1) which is almost impossible to reverse. The hash is based on the master password and target site (domain).

No. The Scrambled Passwords are always automatically generated from the Master Password you supply for the session.

The Record Option records the target URLs you use Password Scrambler on in the system registry. If you later want a full list of scrambled passwords, Password Scrambler is able to autogenerate them based on the targets.

The same rules that apply for passwords in general apply here. Try to use something easy to remember for you, but hard to guess for others. Try to use combinations of letters and numbers or special characters in order to thwart so called "dictionary attacks" (a technique used by hackers whereby they try to guess your password by trying common "dictionary" words).

You shouldn't. (Really!)

This is the same as changing passwords on the sites you login to. You need to follow the Password Change link in every site you login to, enter the old scrambled password in the old password field, then enter the new scrambled password in the new password field. We recommend you disable the "Autofill" option while performing this operation.

Right click on the IE toolbar, and click on "Customize...". Move the Password Scrambler icon from the left to the right, and click OK.

Very carefully, and only if you need to copy the scrambled password somewhere. Note that many utilities save a clipboard "history" for future use. If you copy your passwords to the Clipboard, they could be available for future use. This is especially a problem in public computers. Never use the "Copy To Clipboard" option on a public computer.

With most single signon systems, you are normally sending your master password to a server for verification (i.e. the server knows it), and other sites receive authorization from that server. With the scrambler, only you know your Master Password, no one else. Each site you visit receives a new scrambled password.
